Charles Lapicque was a French painter known for his brightly colored depictions of landscapes and figures. Employing fragmented pictorial space, patches of color, and cursory outlines, Lapicque’s style most closely resembled that of Raoul Dufy. He believed that that red, orange and yellow were colors always ready to become lighter and blue as a color is destined to be darker. Lapicque produced some of his first landscape paintings in 1920, and continued working in a laboratory as an engineer, where he also researched color perception. By 1943, the artist had devoted himself entirely to his art career and over the following decades he traveled to Venice four times and produced paintings inspired by the city’s villas, gardens, and church facades.

Marcelle Oury was a great friend of Raoul Dufy. Following his death, she compiled and published a portfolio “Lettres A Mon Peintre” (“Letters to my Painter”), paying ‘hommage’ to him, using some of Dufy’s own works, and other works by close artist friends of Dufy and Oury.

The production was limited to 5000 numbered copies.
