William Tombleson (1795 – c. 1846) was an English topographical and architecture artist, illustrator, copper and steel engraver, writer and printmaker, based in London.

This original print is from Britton’s “Picturesque Views of the English Cities, published in 1827.

Tombleson was well known for his topographical drawings, particularly of the upper and middle River Rhine in Germany, and of the rivers Thames and Medway in England, and this publication featuiring views of historic British Cities. Sometimes published separately or featured in bound volumes. Often translated into French and German, they were marketed throughout Europe.

In this series of prints he was assisted by G Robson to produce the engraved plates from Tombleson’s original drawings.
