William Lewis was a publisher and map maker working in London during the first half of the nineteenth century. From his premises at 21 Finch Lane, Cornhill he produced a range of publications intended for the mass market. The ‘New Travellers Guide’ was one such publication. It provided a concise map with brief descriptions of each county or area of England and Wales. These guide proved very popular at the time and were reprinted many times – the last edition appeared in 1836. The maps were hand coloured.
