Original antique engraving by the British artist Nathaniel Parr.

It features a lower, wide-angle perspective looking directly down the central piazza from the entrance of the now-demolished San Geminiano church, ending at the facade of St Mark’s Basilica.

It was originally published as part of a set of Venetian views. Its matching print is titled “The Great Place or Square of St. Mark as seen from the Great Clock.”

Nathaniel Parr was an 18th-century English printmaker, line engraver, and publisher based in London. He was highly active between the late 1730s and his death in 1751, producing a wide array of architectural views, historical maps, and portrait engravings.
