General Plan by Messrs Thomas Telford and James Douglas for the replacement of London bridge

Thomas Telford, with a young associate, James Douglass, made a very bold proposal for a 600 ft cast-iron arch over the Thames to replace London Bridge.

The plan was one of several submitted to the select committee but was not selected on the grounds of it being technically viable.
